As you must know (unless you’ve been living under a rock!), all witches embark on a study exchange when they turn 12. It is a right of passage, and allows young spell-crafters to find their specialty. 
 

Our little Esme was sent, to her utmost excitement, to the world of Silv; a fae realm accessible by mushroom-ring-portal. Taken under the wing of Stumpy, an old tree stump spirit who runs a young witch boarding school, she has taken residence in his fairy knoll and spends her days learning magic from the different creatures, faeries and flora of the area, and exploring the wilds with her friends. The world is full of wonder and excitement, until a dark secret reveals itself to her. 

Her family lineage is tainted by a dark curse.

This curse all started thousands of years ago, with a young witch mother who’s baby was afflicted by a terrible illness. As her baby grew weaker and weaker, the witch grew more and more desperate, before finally making a deal with a god of the old world, an ancient dragon named Eladrah, to sacrifice her life for her baby’s. The dragon agreed, but as with all deals with ancient gods go, the boons they bestow never quite go as you’d hope. For as long as her lineage would continue, every second daughter born with the mark would become haunted by the spirits of the past, slowly going mad.

As happens from time to time, the curse skipped a couple generations, as they comprised of sons alone, and a couple generations is sometimes all that is needed for a family to forget. As such, Esme and her parents had known nothing of this history. The curse took hold of her suddenly, and, confused and afraid, she must uncover the secrets of the distant past through her adventures in Silv with the help of her friends, in order to free herself and break the cycle before she loses her mind.
